Active Extension
Fidelity Active STrategy (FAST) Funds are designed to deliver enhanced relative and risk-adjusted returns through active use of long and short equity exposures. Within the FAST suite, we offer a range of products with varying risk and return profiles managed against different asset class benchmarks. With over five year's experience of successfully managing these Active Extension funds, Fidelity offers a tried and tested approach to managing these strategies, which are now available under UCITS III.
Fidelity's Active Extension investment discipline affords our portfolio managers the flexibility to take both long and short exposures, with a view to enhancing overall portfolio return when compared to long-only funds. This is a logical progression for Fidelity from long-only investment management, as the FAST funds can utilise the full potential of our proprietary fundamental buy and sell research recommendations, generated one of the largest buy-side research teams in the world.

- FAST Optimised European Market Neutral Fund seeks to achieve a total return regardless of the direction of the underlying equity market. By neutralising the portfolio’s exposure to systematic risks, such as style or asset allocation, the Fund seeks to generate an uncorrelated source of alpha with lower volatility than traditional equity portfolios.
- FAST Europe and FAST Japan seek to generate enhanced returns over the longer term through adding opportunistic sources of positive alpha – through the introduction of additional high conviction long and short positions – without a dramatic increase in overall portfolio risk, compared to long-only equity portfolios.
The FAST funds combine the full range of Fidelity's proprietary buy and sell research recommendations with appropriate investment and risk management infrastructure. They offer a range of tried and tested strategies for sophisticated investors seeking portfolios capable of accessing additional sources of alpha when compared to a long-only fund.
