Under pressure

Global equity markets remained under pressure during the week owing largely to continuing doubts about the strength and sustainability of the US economic recovery. A key area of concern for investors is the poor state of the US housing market; on Tuesday, the National Association of Realtors reported that sales of previously owned homes fell by a record 27.2% in July, which was more than double the rate of decline the market had been expecting.
